David Horgan sustained several injuries after the accident

A fundraiser has been set up for a young soccer player who is in intensive care after a bike accident in Thailand.

David Horgan, from Cork, was involved in a single-person bike accident last weekend in Thailand. He is currently in intensive care in Phuket Hospital and will need to undergo several major operations.

The young man has sustained severe injuries, including bleeding in the brain, multiple broken bones in the face and skull, severe fractures across the face, as well as broken teeth.

A GoFundMe campaign was set up, here, to help him with his medical costs.

“We are reaching out to you today with heavy hearts and a sense of urgency. David was involved in a single-person bike accident in Thailand on Saturday morning. He is currently in critical care in the intensive care unit in Phuket Hospital,” read a note on the GoFundMe page.

“David will need several major operations to address these injuries and to give him a chance at recovery. The medical expenses are mounting quickly, and we kindly ask for your help to ensure that David receives the best possible care.

“David is a beloved friend, family member, teammate, boyfriend and colleague. He is known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. We are devastated by this accident and are doing everything we can to support him during this incredibly challenging time.”

David's soccer club, Tramore Atheltic, appealed for help on social media.

"Tramore Athletic are reaching out to all of our members past and present, the local community in Douglas, Turners Cross and beyond, and the wider Cork sporting community, as our Senior goalkeeper David Horgan was involved in a single-person bike accident over the weekend in Thailand.

"David is currently in critical care in Phuket Hospital and will need several major operations to address his long list of serious injuries. The medical expenses are mounting quickly, and we kindly ask for your help to ensure that David receives the best possible care.

"David is a beloved club member and teammate, known for his humour and spirit, and has been an ever present in between the posts in Tramore Park since he was a child. We are devastated by this accident and we appreciate every donation towards David's medical expenses. Every cent will count and will go directly towards his treatment and recovery," they said.
