The fundraiser organised for the family of a Galway dad-of-three who lost his life in a tragic workplace accident has received an "unbelievable responses".

Pat (Patrick) Lardner died at the scene of an accident at a commercial business in Tuam on Friday, April 5. His body was taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem.

Pat was of Kincullia, Loughrea and formerly of Cashla, Athenry, in Co Galway.

A fundraiser set up for Pat's family raised €71,765 and the initial target was of €25,000.

Sean and Caroline Mulholland, who organised the fundraiser, said: "We just wanted to acknowledge the unbelievable response to Pat’s Go Fund Me page. We want to thank every single business and every single person who gave a donation. The money won’t bring Pat back, but it will help the family grieve in peace."

"The Go Fund me for Pat surpassed our expectations and shows the generosity of the community, it also shows the popularity of the man that was Pat Lardner and is a testament to how highly he was thought of. Thanks again for the support that you are showing for this family," they added.

Pat is sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife Éilish and by his much-adored children Dylan, Megan and Michelle, by Dylan’s partner Rebecca and Megan’s partner Conor.

Pat is also deeply regretted by his brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, father-in-law, relatives, extended family, neighbours and his wide circle of friends.

Since the tragic news broke out, heartfelt tributes have poured in for Pat, who has been described as a "wonderful man", who was always in "good form".

"My deepest condolences to all the Lardner family on the untimely passing of your beloved Pat. What a wonderful man, whom I had the pleasure of dealing with over the years. May he rest in peace," wrote someone in tribute.
