Fair City star Aisling Kearns has shared her homebirth story after she recently welcomed her first son, Tommy.
The actress, who played Maria Purcell in the RTE soap, welcomed son Tommy with her partner David Fennell last October.
"When I first heard of a home birth my initial thoughts were 'No way, sure I need to be in a hospital'" she said.
However, after a chat with a midwife, she realised that it was "actually much more suited to me and my preferences".
Some study and reading “Reclaiming childbirth as a rite of passage” by Dr Rachel Reed confirmed that home birth was exactly what she wanted.
After that, she started planning here HSE homebirth.
She said she couldn't have done it with the constant support of her midwife and doula.
She also thanked her partner Dave who "was by my side for the entire birth and supported me in all the ways I needed before and during Tommy's birth".
"So if you’d like to hear more please have a listen and if you think home birth is something you’re interested in or you’d like more information get in touch with one of the wonderful home birth midwives... and they can give you all the details you need to know," Aisling said.
