A driver has been caught travelling 111kmh in a 80kmh zone in Dublin this morning as part of the National Slow Down Day.

National Slow Down Day is a Garda operation, urging drivers to stay safe on Irish roads and comply with the speed limits.

Within the first 20 mins of their shift on duty this morning, Gardaí from the Roads Policing Unit in Dublin Castle had already picked up several motorists for speeding.

Two of those caught driving over the speed limit were both driving well over the 80km/h limit along the R107 in North Dublin.

In the first two hours of the National Slow Down Day, GoSafe detected 21 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limits.
