The incident occurred in Kerry

A community in Kerry has rallied to help a man who sadly lost his family home in a fire.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, March 29 saw Pieter Bot lost his entire home in a fire.

Pieter moved from Amsterdam to Ireland in the late 1970s. In his home, he raised five daughters - including Linde, who has called on the public to help her father.

"To say we are heartbroken is an understatement, we are devastated and in complete shock," Linde started.

"Pieter spent his entire life building the family home and took pride in everything he did. His home wasn’t only his home it was also his work. Many people who know dad, know the passion he had for his work as a builder and the pride he took in it. He not only lost his entire home, he also lost his work shop, tools, his life’s work. We are forever grateful that dad wasn’t inside the house when it burned down and that’s all that matters," she said.

According to his daughter, Pieter has always been a big part of the community in Kerry - and many would recognise his smiling face or his van "whizzing around the place".

"We hope that you can help our dad in slowly starting to rebuild his life, his home, his workshop in the coming months. We would really appreciate anything you can spare. He has literally been left with only the clothes on his back, everything has been burned and destroyed," she added.

So far, nearly €70,000 have been raised to help Pieter. You can donate to the fundraiser here.
