Presenter Coleen Nolan has urged people to quit smoking after a health scare

The singer and presenter, who recently quit smoking after 40 years, opened up about a health scare which made her think she was “going to die”.

Coleen said she was struggling to breathe as she had an acute chest infection. After which, she gave up cigarettes.

Now, she has not touched a cigarette in three months.

When she first started to smoke, she said she was not aware of the risks. She has now joined forces with charities Cancer Research UK, Action on Smoking and Health and Asthma and Lung UK.

"I smoked for about 40 years and was heavily influenced by my friends and family around me. At such a young age I wasn't aware of the health risks of smoking and soon found myself becoming addicted,” Coleen said.

"Following a recent health scare, I realised how precious life is and became determined to quit, not just for my own health, but so I can be there fully for my children and grandchildren. To anyone out there thinking of giving up smoking, my advice is do it,” the singer added.
