Boy, 16, stopped by gardaí while driving tractor with no tax for eight years

A member of the public called it a 'remarkable oversight' as tractor had gone under the radar for 2,919 days
It was the end of the road for a sixteen year old boy in Bandon, Co. Cork as he was stopped by gardaí while on a charity drive.
In a post on An Garda Síochána Cork's Facebook profile, gardaí explained that the Cork County Road Policing Unit based in Bandon had stopped a tractor and the tax was checked. The Garda mobility device showed it had expired by 2,919 days or eight years. The Annual Agricultural tractor motor rate is €102 a year.
Members of the public have shared mixed reactions the update, one person said: "Eight years without tax? Surely a remarkable oversight, both by the owner and the authorities. How is it possible that a vehicle, often operating on public roads, escaped notice for nearly a decade? Isn't it the Gardaí's role to enforce these regulations consistently?"
Another commented: "Probably just a farm tractor out for the day of the tractor run to help raise more money for a good cause. Probably wouldn't tax it for the one day of the year it's on the road."
Another person said: "To all the apologists once again trying to justify the illegal behaviour of those on our roads. This was THE ROAD POLICING UNIT this is literally their job! So stop making bullshit excuses for illegal road users and stop asking them to solve real crime."
